In recent years, with the extensive integration of online services into the customer experience and logistics processes, the logistics era under the new wave of retail has been propelled. Automated vehicles, autonomous robots, smart warehouses, and other new technologies emerge constantly.
Traditional supermarkets are facing a transformation challenge. In order to improve storage efficiency, ensure product quality, and meet the exact needs of consumers, they are gradually breaking the previous logistics model, integrating logistics resources and technologies and entering the era of intelligence in an all-round way.
A retail group that owns a chain of supermarkets and restaurants throughout China, used 30 Flash series robots to help its Smart Logistics facility pick and deliver goods from the warehouse and provide online order distribution logistics support services for stores and outlets.
Overview of the facility:
- 101,800 square meters of overall land area
- 650,000 boxes average daily throughput
- 1.5 million boxes maximum storage capacity.
In a warehouse with a wide variety of commodities, regardless of the distribution needs for stores or online orders:
- Flash series robots can quickly respond and coordinate;
- Realize the “Goods-to-Person” model and Intralogistics of various storage operations.
Automatic distribution greatly reduces costs and improves the efficiency of the logistics chain.
In addition, the company’s fresh food smart warehouse put into use 40 Flash series robots to realize the “fresh” storage and delivery of fresh vegetables, fruits, and other fresh commodities. The “smart brain” intelligent warehouse management system IWMS plan routes, arrange shelves and meet special needs such as fresh food weighing. In the future, smart warehouses will also cover all categories of fresh products including meat, cooked food, pastries, etc. It is currently the first mobile robot fresh food picking warehouse in the supermarket industry.
“Different from ordinary commodities, fresh commodities have extremely high requirements on packaging, refrigeration temperature, and delivery timeliness in the warehousing and logistics chain, which increases the difficulty and intensity of warehousing operations.”
The implementation of the smart warehouse projects is a reflection of the deep integration of robot technology in the supermarket industry. The scope of activities of the operators has been reduced from the entire warehouse area to one point, which has greatly improved the efficiency of picking and delivery, and at the same time reduced labor intensity and labor cost.
In the future, more AMR robot series will be used in retail and supermarket businesses. A full range of products includes the Thor series of unmanned forklifts for handling palletized goods, and the Beast series for picking and placing goods and materials.
